Access Alexa Routines: Where to Tap and What to Check

Open Routines in the Alexa app

Open the Alexa app on your phone, tap More in the bottom navigation bar, and select Routines . On the Routines screen, you can view routines you’ve created and tap one to see what starts it, which actions it runs, and whether it’s enabled.

If you don’t see Routines right away, look through the options under More; app labels and layouts can change with updates. Make sure you’re signed in to the Amazon account you use for your Alexa devices, especially if you have more than one account on your phone.

Find or edit a routine

From the Routines screen, tap an existing routine to review its trigger and actions before changing anything. For example, if a light turns on at an unexpected time, look at the routine’s schedule and any other routines that control the same light.

When you’re ready to make a change, use the options shown in that routine to adjust its settings or turn it off. Reviewing the actions first helps you avoid disabling a routine that also handles something useful, such as a reminder or a different device.

Create a routine for an everyday task

To make a new routine, open More → Routines and tap the plus (+) button, then follow the prompts to choose what starts it and what Alexa should do. A scheduled routine might turn off selected lights at bedtime, while a voice-triggered routine can group several actions under one phrase.

Choose actions that match the devices you actually use, and test the routine after saving it to confirm it behaves as you intended. For more ideas focused on household energy use, read our guide to Alexa routines that save energy; our Alexa Routines That Save Energy (and Money) digital download is also designed around that topic.

If a routine isn’t where you expect

Start by returning to More → Routines rather than looking on an individual device’s controls, because a routine can contain actions for several devices. If someone else in your household set it up, ask which Amazon account they used before assuming the routine was deleted.

Our team recommends opening any routine you find and reading its trigger as well as its actions, particularly when you’re troubleshooting a device that seems to operate on its own. That gives you a clearer picture of whether the routine is responsible before you edit or disable it.
